It’s common for people to confuse the Central Oklahoma Humane Society with the OKC Animal Welfare Shelter. While we both have similar missions and a mutual love for our furry friends, we are two very different entities that work together to save as many lives as possible.
In honor of Animal Control Appreciation week, we’d like to recognize all of the great things OKC Animal Welfare does for our community. They do so much with what they have, and we are proud to partner with them.
Because of our name, the “Central Oklahoma Humane Society,” people often think we are associated with the Humane Society of the United States and handle things like animal abuse, lost animals, cruelty, etc.
While it is a great organization and does great work, we are not a subsidiary. The OKC Animal Welfare agency is the group that handles these tough cases day in and day out. They have the Animal Care & Control contract with the city.
While OKC Animal Welfare also offers adoptions, they do SO much more than that! They take in all animals including owner surrenders and strays. We then transfer most of our pets from them. We take a limited number of owner surrenders but don’t take in stray pets. Some may be lost and their best chances of being found are through OKC Animal Welfare.
Without OKC Animal Welfare’s help and cooperation, we would not be able to save as many lives as we do. We appreciate their hard work and dedication to helping animals beyond words. So thank you OKC Animal Welfare for being such a fantastic partner, and most of all, for helping so many pets!
