HELP SAVE HOWIE!!
OK HUMANE NEEDS YOU.
(November 18, 2009) Last week, OK Humane was fortunate to come across a very special dog named Howie. Howie is a 3 year old Bichon/Poodle mix. We quickly noticed his sweet demeanor, loving eyes, and darling personality. He seemed like a wonderful addition to our adoption program and we knew instantly he would make someone a wonderful life-long friend.
He had horribly matted hair making it difficult to know what was underneath, but we knew that there was a great little dog beneath the harsh coat. After rescuing Howie and finding him a foster home, we noticed that Howie was having a lot of difficulty using his left hind leg.
We arranged to have Howie evaluated by one of our staff veterinarians, who found that Howie had sustained a very bad fracture to his pelvis. Judging by the type and severity of the fracture it appears Howie was hit by a car and left to fend for himself with painful, debilitating injuries.
There is hope for Howie as his fractures can be fixed surgically to allow him to live a long and pain-free life. Without surgery Howie will be permanently debilitated and likely unadoptable to a deserving family.
The cost of repair for Howie’s fracture(s) is $1800. As OK Humane is a non-profit organization, this is a large sum of money that is currently not in our budget. HOW CAN YOU HELP?? You can help Howie by making a donation to OK Humane for “Rita’s Angel Fund.” This fund enables pets like Howie to receive the life saving treatment they need to live.
