Spay/Neuter Community Liaison

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Operations

Purpose of Position:

Assess spay/neuter education needs of the community and prepare programs for presentation in addition to promoting sterilizations and educating and directing citizens to available resources and information.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote spay/neuter and its benefits within the community
  • Write informational reports.
  • Refer citizens to appropriate agency or program.
  • Working within targeted zip codes for specific projects.
  • Develop and evaluate plans, criteria, etc. for variety of projects, program activities, etc.
  • Speak as a representative of OK Humane before public groups.
  • Conduct needs assessments.
  • Transporting animals requiring spay/neuter to the NW Spay/Neuter Clinic from within community.
  • Evaluate programs for effectiveness and accomplishment of goals.
  • Evaluate needs assessment data to determine course of action i.e. training, new program, etc.
  • Develop and conduct public information and education programs.
  • Design visual presentation materials
  • Maintain work and general areas in an organized manner
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be comfortable handling/learning to handle both dogs and cats – general handling (petting, leash-walking, some lifting and carrying), and restraint (drawing blood, giving vaccines, and placing animals in cages/carriers)
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, a professional, tactful, mature and sincere attitude, and be able to represent the mission, goals and the policies of OK Humane in a creative, credible and energetic manner
  • Must be able to work maturely and respectfully with diverse groups of people
  • Must be organized, flexible and adjust to rapid, changing needs
  • Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computer systems used in operations and have basic computer skills, including database skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues strongly preferred
  • Commitment to mission, values, goals and success of OK Humane
  • Must be proficient on MS Office
  • Ability to follow directions and multitask.
  • Position will require weekend days and evenings

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a kennel/shelter setting and outdoors
  • Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking and, standing on feet 8-10 hours per day while performing job functions
  • Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning
  • Exposure to various weather conditions when working outdoors
  • Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations
