"K-9 Deluxe" Doghouse

The K-9 Deluxe represents the cutting-edge in doghouse technology. A rainwater collection system to quench your canine’s thirst, solar powered ventilation and a highly-reflective roof to keep your canine cool – all of these options come standard in this high-tech model. The solar powered interior light and a removable panel make it easy to clean inside.

Water collection tanks on the roof gather and distribute water to the dog’s water bowl below. Using a valve, the water may be stored in the tanks until needed. A screen filter prevents foreign matter from collecting in the tanks. The adjustable, removable food tray allows for easy feeding and watering of the dog.

A solar-powered fan draws air through the door and out through the roof, keeping the interior cool by constantly circulating fresh air. The fan has a battery, which stores energy up to 48 hours, allowing the fan to run, even at night. The unit also features a small interior LED light, which can be turned on and off. A clerestory also provides indirect daylight.

The large reflective roof of The K-9 Deluxe provides protection from the sun by reflecting solar energy away, keeping the doghouse cool. The angle of the roof allows sunlight to enter during the winter months, when the sun is low in the sky; but shades the doghouse interior in the summer months, when it is higher in the sky. The sliding roof louver creates a semi-shaded space on the porch where the dog may bask in the sun.

"Dog Trot" Doghouse

The design of this doghouse was influenced by the simple, vernacular forms and building materials found in the rural architecture of central Oklahoma. It is inspired by a style of house historically common in the southern United States, consisting of two wood frame structures under a common roof, with a breezeway, or “dog trot”, between them. Typically, one side was used for cooking and dining while the other side was used for private living space. The breezeway provided one of the more ingenious methods of cooling in the days before air conditioning.

This doghouse puts a modern spin on the traditional design of the dog trot by utilizing structural insulated panels for its construction instead of traditional wood framing. The insulated panels, along with the breezeway, will help keep the living space comfortably cool in the summer.

"Dog Coop" Doghouse

Using basic renewable/recyclable materials in a simple way, sustainability is achieved through the efficient construction of The Dog Coop. Waste has been minimized through the precision of digital fabrication. Standardized components have been arranged and cut to minimize waste. Through this process, we use less of Mother Nature’s limited resources.

Beyond the process of construction, The Dog Coop is a basic box with a “dog eared” roof that acts as a passive cooling device. With correct orientation on the site, the roof can block the transfer of heat into the doghouse by virtue of being independent of the enclosure. Passive cooling is achieved by air flowing between the roof and the enclosure. The circulation of air under the raised floor of the enclosure aids with this process as well. Combined with traditional insulated walls The Dog Coop will provide comfort and safety for man’s best friend throughout the year.
