According to a PetSmart Charities survey, of the pet owners surveyed, 72% did not know the appropriate time to get their pets spayed or neutered. Of the pet owners who responded stating that their pets have had at least one litter, 59% of cat owners and 38% of dog owners say those litters were accidental, or unintentional.
Sadly, it’s not just pet owners that are impacted by these accidental litters. Unintentional litters are a major contributer to pet overpopulation, and most people don’t realize that their pets can go into heat as early as 4 months old.
“We’re so excited to be a part of the “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda” campaign and believe that by offering free spay/neuter for puppies and kittens under four months of age, we can help prevent at least one accidental litter,” says President of OK Humane Christy Counts. “Our goal is to educate Oklahomans and correct this outdated misconception, encouraging them to fix their puppies and kittens early.”
To schedule a FREE spay/neuter appointment for a puppy or kitten under four months of age, please call the OK Humane Place Spay + Neuter Clinic at (405) 947-SPAY (7729) by July 31 to make an appointment.
