“I became a volunteer with OK Humane in a very unexpected way. I had just lost a very close friend in a tragic accident. After his passing, his cat was left in his home for 3 days before we realized she was still there. I was faced with grieving while finding a home for his beloved cat. My cats did not like her, so keeping her was not an option. I was guided to OK Humane through a friend. They helped me through what was already a very difficult process with their tireless efforts. Immediately, I knew that I wanted to be a part of this organization. Now, 3 ½ years later, I am still fostering. With the help from my husband, daughter and son, we have fostered over 200 cats and dogs. We have also adopted two of our own fosters.
“There is nothing more amazing than coming home and seeing all the little faces looking up with unconditional love. I feel so much pride in watching each of them find their forever home and know that I played a part in that journey. Fostering is an incredible gift you give to the animals, and yet you receive so much more in walking the journey with each and every one of them. It is amazing to know that just one person really can make a difference, one animal at a time.”- Christy Whitmire
A note from Caitlin Phillips, 2011 Foster Care Manager:
“Christy Whitmire is an integral part of the OK Humane Foster Care Program. In 2011 alone, she fostered 64 animals! Without people like her, the OK Humane Foster program would not exist. Thank you Christy!”
