My name is Amy B., and I began volunteering with animals when I was a young adult. I have been involved in animal welfare with a number of organizations. My first volunteer work with the Central Oklahoma Humane Society began when my daughter Darby became involved three years ago in adoption outreach. OK Humane needed kitten fosters (and they still do!), so I signed up. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Last year, I was able to partner with the ASPCA in Florida through OK Humane, to help with an animal hoarder situation there. I am now involved with volunteering for adoption events, helping at the In-House Clinic, fostering cats and kittens, and most recently with the reunification of animals after May 2013 tornadoes. I do it for the animals, but the caring and hard work of the Central Oklahoma Humane Society staff and volunteers has always impressed me. OK Humane has always stood out for me because of their compassion for the animals and the voice they give their volunteers.
