The May 20th tornado left many homes in the City of Moore with little standing.
All that was left of Tory’s home was a queen size bed and three dogs huddled around it. Tory was standing on top of the bed protecting her family, while her two small dog siblings were crouched under the bed in fear but unharmed. Tory was not so fortunate, and sustained several lacerations and bruising to her chest. The first responders helped to clear away the debris and took the small dogs over to a pet triage unit for placement at a temporary shelter. In the commotion of the first responder activity, Tory was left behind. When her family was finally able to make it back to what was their home the next day they realized that Tory was nowhere to be found.
The family quickly started the search for their baby and scoured the online postings daily. After many hours at looking at photos of lost dogs, searching the temporary shelters, and making phone calls, they found Tory on May 28th at the OK Humane Reunion Facility.
We are so happy that we were able to help this family be reunited. It was an extremely emotional reunion and one of many stories our staff will never forget!
