Teen Board Member Helps Animals through Art

August 10th, 2012

By Amy Shrodes, Manager of Development

Caroline McKinnis is a young local artist who has a huge heart for animals and wants to help them in whatever way she can. She was selected for the second consecutive year as a participant in the Youth Art Sale at the 2012 Festival of the Arts in downtown Oklahoma City. The Youth Art Sale is designed to encourage the developing creativity of young people in our community. All of the artists in the Youth Art Sale are between the ages of 8 and 18 years old, living in central Oklahoma, and selected through a jury process by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City.

Caroline decided to use her booth to raise awareness about animal welfare in Oklahoma City and handed out OK Humane information to everyone that visited her space. She also chose to donate her art sale proceeds to the Central Oklahoma Humane Society. She raised almost $1,000 from the sale which all went to help us save more animals in Oklahoma City!

Caroline is a member of our Teen Board and is a student at Classen School of Advanced Studies. She will be serving as Teen Board Vice President for the 2012-2013 term. To learn more about the OK Humane Teen Board, visit http://www.okhumane.org/volunteer/teen-board.
