Vice President of Operations Samantha Burnett has been with OK Humane since its inception in 2007. Samantha was the first staff member of OK Humane. She discovered her passion for animal welfare two years before becoming a staffer and hasn’t looked back since.
Samantha first became involved in animal welfare when she started volunteering at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter in 2004. After just a few days, she knew that something needed to be don to address the pet overpopulation issue – and knew that she wanted to be a part of it. She met OK Humane founder Christy Counts during her time volunteering at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter. When Christy decided to start OK humane, Samantha had no concerns about taking the leap as well.
“People thought I was crazy for going from a stable job to working at a start-up non-profit,” Burnett said. “I never had any doubt. Something clicked for me, and I knew it was what I wanted to do. Christy is a phenomenal leader, and I always knew it would work out.”
Now the Vice President of Operations, Samantha provides leadership and management to ensure smooth operations throughout the organization. She works to make OK humane as efficient as possible and, as she puts it, “keep the boat steering straight.”
Thank you, Samantha, for all of your dedication and hard work for the animals in Oklahoma!
