Buddy before surgery.

Thanks to you, our wonderful supporters, Buddy the Lhasa Apso mix is seeing the world in a completely new way these days!

Buddy was transferred into our adoption program from the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter. Although he is only 3 years old, his matted hair and clouded eyes told the story of a long, hard life. We placed him in a caring foster home, where he received a bath and a fresh haircut so that we could see his happy little face. His sweet personality began to shine through as he learned that humans can be kind and loving. However, after a few days his foster family began to notice that Buddy could not see very well. We arranged to have Buddy evaluated by one of our staff veterinarians, who found that Buddy’s vision was blurred by cataracts.  A visit to see an eye specialist revealed that Buddy suffered from juvenile cataracts. Without treatment his disease would progress quickly and Buddy would soon be blinded for the rest of his life.

Buddy needed an urgent cataract removal surgery in order to save his eyesight. We reached out to the community for assistance with the cost of Buddy’s care, which was approximately $3,500. We were overwhelmed by the support we received for this sweet little dog. In less than 24 hours, we received more than $4,100 in donations- giving u

s enough funds to fund Buddy’s vital surgery as well as provide care for other animals in need through Rita’s Angel Fund!

Buddy received his surgery less than a week later and his eyesight has improved greatly! He now has the chance to live a long, fulfilled life in which he can see the faces of those who love him most. Buddy’s foster parents and future adopters Annette and Jim expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are so inspired by the loving and huge hearts of everyone who so quickly gave to the fund for Buddy’s surgery. What a gift he is and what a gift he has been given.”

Thank you, friends, for the amazing support you’ve shown Buddy that has enabled him to see again. You have made such a big difference to this little dog!
