The Homeward Bound Relocation Program is performing beautifully and is now relocating a truckload of dogs and puppies to out-of-state partners every week! We couldn’t be more proud of this program and the lives it has saved. In 2013, we have already relocated over 550 dogs and puppies. Our Program Manager, Michelle Karolicki, is doing a fantastic job ensuring we maintain our high standards of care and operation.
In addition, we are extremely fortunate to have another community partner assist us with this important program. Puppy Express is a local non-profit that is dedicated to providing transport vehicles and drivers to programs like ours. In February, Puppy Express was featured in an article in The Oklahoman, and as a result, received over 20 applications from volunteer drivers. I had the opportunity to attend the volunteer orientation and meet these wonderful people willing to sit behind the wheel for a two-day round trip. The majority of these willing volunteers are recent retirees that are looking for something to bring them fulfillment. I immensely enjoyed my time visiting with them and learning why they were excited about our program. My heart was warmed with their stories of personal pets and how much they wanted to give back.
It is programs like the Homeward Bound Program and partners like Puppy Express that have pushed the needle forward each year for Oklahoma City. I am so proud to be part of such a fantastic group of people who live and breathe compassion each day.
