On Monday, May 20th, a horrific tornado ripped the city of Moore, OK and parts of South Oklahoma City to shreds. OK Humane is currently working with local authorities and the City of Oklahoma City to treat, house, and reunite lost pets with their owners. Donate today to support the general rescue efforts for animals located in central Oklahoma that are in need of assistance.
Chance and his Oma have been reunited! His Oma has been keeping him for her son that is in California. Her home was completed destroyed in the Moore tornado. A crate saved Chance's life.

    Hello friends,
Member of the Massachusetts Humane Society here. Just made a (too little) donation, and want you to know you’re all in our thoughts and prayers out here. God bless you and the pets and human companions you are serving so well !

    Peter

    • okhumane says:

Peter, thank you and the Massachusetts Humane Society for thinking of us in our time of need. There is NO such thing as a too little donation! We and the animals here in Oklahoma appreciate you very much!

  3. Janis Jones says:

I just donated to help with animal rescue, particularly of cats and horses. Are you able to do horse rescue? If not, are you aware that Emergency Animal Rescue of CA does horse rescue (they are in San Diego area), and are part of United Animal Nations. Best wishes for success in the wake of this terrible event.

    • okhumane says:

Janis – we are not doing equine rescues at this time. Thank you for your donation and kind words as we move forward after this tragedy. We are working as hard as we can to care for the animals we have received and get them to their families as quick as possible, which wouldn’t be possible without all of the support that we have received from around the country & world. Thank you!

      • Maire says:

Anne, not sure if this will help, but I did read about a local (OK) group doing equine rescues in the area. http://www.blazesequinerescue.com/

Here is the story about three horses that miraculously survived : http://m.news9.com/story.aspx?story=14750968&catId=112032

          Janis and Marie,

Although OK Humane’s rescue efforts are concentrated on dogs and cats, we do have some updated information about the equine rescue situation as of this afternoon: horses and livestock who survived the storm are at various veterinary and boarding facilities in the area already. The best contact point if you’d like to donate money or supplies to help is the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, and they can be reached at 405.478.1002.

  4. Anne Bowen says:

I’d like to donate money to horse rescue efforts – can i do this through your web site or how?

Just FYI, the link to the story about the 3 horses that survived a tornado is from the 2011 tornado that went through Calumet.

    • okhumane says:

Anne, the horses who survived the storm are currently being cared for at several veterinary clinics and boarding facilities around the metro area. If you’d like to donate to help with their needs, the best contact point that we can recommend is the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association at 405.478.1002. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope that information helps!

  5. Gretchen Ochsenschlager says:

Just made a donation to help the dear animals who are impacted by the terrible tragedy with the tornado. I work with rescue here in Illinois and have never been faced with all you must need to do but hope the donation will let you know I want to help if it is only this way. God bless all of you!

    • okhumane says:

Gretchen, thank you for your generosity in the aftermath of this tragedy. It is greatly appreciated by us and our animals!

  6. Kirsten says:

  7. Stacy says:

I would be honored if you guys needed a place to keep some animals. I am a huge lover and have many pets. I am also a member of the aspca and the human society. Please call 9184418786 if you need someone to foster a couple of animals in everyone’s time of need.

    • okhumane says:

Stacy, thank you for being willing to open your home to one of these animals. Currently, our local foster network is sufficient to meet our needs, but we will be in touch if those circumstances change. Thank you again!

  8. GC says:

Where can medical supplies to mailed to?

  9. Jennifer Schmelzle says:

Just donated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; your hard work and caring for the animals devastated by the tornado is truly appreciated.

    • okhumane says:

Thank YOU, Jennifer, for your generosity. Support from you and other animal lovers is what makes our work possible. You are appreciated!

  10. Sherri says:

I found my first dog in a creek, my second and current dog at a German Shepherd rescue that takes dogs that will otherwise be put down. I would die of heartbreak if I lost either to a disaster, and hope my small donation will go a little way to helping others recover their pets. Thanks for all you do at the Humane Society in hard times and every day! I’m sure if you posted a request on your website asking people to foster dogs while their owners are getting back on their feet you would get a good response. :)

Warm wishes from San Diego, CA

    • okhumane says:

Sherri, that’s such a heartwarming story about your dogs! Thank you for donating to us and reaching out to Oklahoma during this time of need in our community. And, you’re right–our local foster network has stepped up in a big way, and we’ve been able to find temporary homes for all animals that have come to us in the last three days. Thank you again for thinking of us!

Do you have an Amazon.com wish list? You can have items sipped directly to you with out people who are donating having to deal with packaging. Either way, I’ll be sending a package shortly. Bless you all. You are in my prayers.

  14. L Compton says:

My husband and I donated yesterday after deciding it was better to donate on a local level rather than to a national entity. It will never be enough, but we hope it helps.

Please know we also emailed more than 50 friends and family about your organization. Hopefully, some of them will make a donation.

You’re doing tremendous work in difficult circumstances. Please know it is appreciated far and wide by those of us who can’t physically help. Thank you and keep up the good work!

  21. When the May 3, 1999, tornado ripped through Moore, it also came through Tulsa that night (much less intense). The next day, I found a little puppy hiding under my car in the parking lot at work. She was just terrified, and covered in ticks. My heart broke because I knew she had been in the storm, and I picked her up thinking I’d find her a home. She fell asleep in my lap as I was driving, and I knew that home was mine. She has since left us due to cancer, but she’ll always be in my heart.

This storm makes me think of her, and all of the pets that were separated from their families during the storm. God bless you folks for taking on the monstrous task of trying to connect people with their furry family members. I’ve donated in Roswell’s name. I think she’d like that.

    • okhumane says:

Mike, we’re so sorry to hear of your loss, but thank you very much for donating in Roswell’s memory. The animals here appreciate it!

  22. Dennis J. says:

God Bless You for helping these pets.

  23. Monica Orand says:

Are you partnering with any Houston organizations where donations can be dropped off? I’ve organized a drive through my employer and will have a truckload. Thanks.

    • AFL73 says:

The Pearland vet clinics have organized a drive and have collected supplies. I’m not sure where you are in Houston, but please feel free to connect with them. They are loading up at noon on Friday.

All you have to do is register with Amazon (the service is free) and add the Amazon button to your site. Potential donor’s can click on the button and be brought to the OK Humane Society’s donation page. From there people can donate cash and or buy the needed supplies, which are then shipped directly to your address.

I donated yesterday, and just ordered some disposable food trays from Amazon to be shipped out there. Thank you for taking care of all those little angels! I couldn’t imagine losing my pets and know y’all are doing everything possible to give them the best care until they are reunited. The situation breaks my heart but I love seeing the reunion pictures and look forward to the many more that will happen because of the time and effort your staff is putting in! Keeping OK in my thoughts and prayers.

  69. BD says:

Another money donation for the tornado animals from Washington state. Thank you for all you are doing for the kitties and dogs- and for the people who love them and have lost so much.

    • okhumane says:

BD, the animals in Oklahoma thank you and the animals in Washington! We’ve had over 40 reunions so far and are working hard to make sure there are many more in the days ahead. We couldn’t do it without your support!

  70. ChelsieH says:

Donation sent your way! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your tireless efforts. It is truly heartwarming to see people from all across the country (and beyond!) come together to help the animals (and people) affected by this tragedy. May God bless you and your work!! Know that you are making a HUGE difference to so so many.

  71. Libby F says:

3# paper food containers like you need on their way from Amazon (because I already have an account with them!) Thanks for all you are doing for the four – leggers in the area of Moore! Wish I could do more from Pennsylvania!

    • okhumane says:

Libby, thank you so much for your donation and thoughts as we work to care for the animals displaced by the storm!

  72. MKStarzynski says:

Just donated through your online form & am also sending best wishes/prayers from Chicago. Thank you so much for looking after human’s best friends in their time of need. Kindest regards, MK and bc-husky companion Maggie.

  73. Lisa says:

Do you still need items listed above? I was going to go buy baby food and some of the other items and deliver to you today. Please let me know if you still have a need for the items! Thanks.

    • okhumane says:

      Hi Lisa,

Yes, we still need all of the items listed below. Thank you so much for your support! We greatly appreciate you keeping us in your thoughts.

  74. Melanie Powers says:

I have 3 boxes of care packages being assembled as we speak. They will have towels, bows, leashes, paper towels, rubber gloves, first aid supplies, poopy bags and much more! I hope it helps! It will be on the way from Southwest Wisconsin on Tuesday! :)

  75. Carol J. says:

Just went to your Amazon wish list. You can expect some sterilite plastic containers with lids by Thursday. Also made a donation to help out with immediate needs, especially after seeing that gorgeous Sheltie. I wish I could do more, but in memory of my own pets, who were also rescued, and a dear friend who loved animals, my hope is that you will be able to provide care and sustenance to the many precious four legged fur babies while they wait to be reunited with their families. Blessings to you all – cj

  76. Maggie says:

    Hi,
I’m willing to foster a dog for a family who is displaced by the storm. I have a one year old Alaskan Malamute rescue who is very friendly and would love to help a fellow pup in need.
    Thank you,
    Maggie and Wrecks

    • okhumane says:

      Maggie and Wrecks,

Thank you for being willing to open your home to an animal in need! Right now, the animals displaced by the tornado are being sheltered at our Quarantine Facility. Keeping them together in one place makes it much easier for their families to locate them. We will definitely be needing increased foster support over the coming months, though, so please fill out a foster application at http://www.okhumane.org/foster, and we will be able to contact you when we have a fostering opportunity. Thank you for your support!

  77. carol says:

I will be sending some stuff via Amazon. Has the Post Office set up anything around the country to get donated items to you?

  78. [...] to Oklahoma on Sunday, June 2! Help us STUFF the van with supplies for those in need. Here is a current wish list from Central Oklahoma Humane [...]

  79. Kayla Munro says:

I just shipped you guys 100 disposable kitty litter boxes from the link you provided. They will arrive at the 7500 N. Western Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73116 address. I wish I was there to help but I hope this helps out with all of your great efforts. Thank you for all that you do and continue to do for the helpless animals.

    All my best,

    Kayla
    (Washington D.C.)

  80. Wendie Weigert says:

Why would you risk going back to a shelter after only 10 days and risk adopting out someone’s put or worse yet putting it to sleep. You could easily mistake a victim for a stray. It would be a great idea to wait one more week, after all there is 17+ miles of devastation. I sent supplies and people are being very generous with sending supplies and food. Have a heart!!!

    • okhumane says:

Wendie, we are keeping animals displaced by the tornado for at least 30 days to allow their owners time to locate them. We want to help these pets find their families! Additionally, OK Humane does not euthanize adoptable animals. Read more about our core values and mission here: http://www.okhumane.org/about/about-ok-humane.

  81. Jill says:

    Hi there,

I had posted last week that my company would like to donate a large amount of medications, gloves, etc….I didn’t hear back at this time and I don’t see my post on the page anymore. I don’t know what happened but we still have these items and are ready to ship them out. Can somebody email me at jmetz@jandbmedical.com and let me know a good phone number/contact to call so I can set this up? I appreciate it!

    Thank you!

    Jill

    • okhumane says:

      Jill,

I’m so sorry that we missed your post! We’ve been doing our best to keep up with all the comments, phone calls and emails. We’d really appreciate a donation of medical supplies–those items top our current wish list, which can be found in this post: http://www.okhumane.org/blog/how-you-can-help-update-on-moore-tornado-damage. You can have the donation shipped directly to our adoption center at 7500 N. Western, Oklahoma City, OK 73116 without calling first to set it up. If you have other questions, please email amy@okhumane.org or call our development office at 405.607.8991.

Thank you for reaching out to help!

  82. Christina says:

Donation just made from Collinsville, IL. Thank you for your dedication and help trying to reunite pets and their owners. You are a godsend for these people who may have nothing now, but will be once again united with their pet(s).

    • okhumane says:

Thank you for your donation! It is very much appreciated as we continue to care for these animals until they can be reunited with their families.

  83. Gavriela says:

Hi — just wanted to check, is this needs list still current?

  84. kwade says:

I am here in NJ and would love to give a donation to help you guys with all your hard work reuniting pets with their owners during this difficult time. I saw you were in need of some supplies- would it be better to send a box full of supplies to you or a $$ donation??

    • okhumane says:

Thank you so much for thinking of the animals here in the aftermath of the recent natural disaster. Either type of donation is greatly appreciated and both can be used to care for the animals, so please choose the one that is best for you. Thank you again for your generosity!

  85. CWilliams says:

Is it possible to text a donation?? If so, what’s the number?

  86. okhumane says:

CWilliams, unfortunately we do not have a text to donate option at this time. You can donate through our donation form at okhumane.org/donate. Thank you for your interest and support!
