September 13 Pet Blessings to Help Families Include Pets in Spiritual Lives
OKLAHOMA CITY (September 3, 2008) - In an effort to help Oklahoma City residents include their pets in their families' spiritual lives, The Central Oklahoma Humane Society (OK Humane) has partnered with area churches to hold a series of free pet blessings.
The fall blessing is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th from 10:00am to 12:00 p.m. at Church of the Servant, located at 14343 N. Macarthur Blvd. in Oklahoma City. The event will take place in the east parking lot.
Five different ministers from Church of the Servant will offer individual blessings for each pet that attends the event. Each pet will also receive a blessing certificate as a memento of the event.
Church of the Servant Senior Minister Dr. Robert E. Gorrell says "God looked at all creation and called it good! We celebrate all the blessings we receive through our pets and animal friends. God has blessed us through them and we pray that God will bless them as well."
The pet blessings are part of Humane Education, a public outreach and education program intended to teach people about the importance of animal welfare. Other elements of the Humane Education program include lesson plans in the school system and after-school programs for children of all ages held in OK Humane's new Education Center.
OK Humane Executive Director Christy Counts says "The staff and volunteers of OK Humane are really looking forward to this event. Pet Blessings are one of our very favorite events to hold for the public!!"
