Doggy Derby - Oklahoma Humane Society

Doggy Derby Offers Fun for Families and their Four-Legged Friends

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 21, 2008) The Central Oklahoma Humane Society invites families to bring their four-legged friends to the first annual Doggy Derby from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sat., May 3, 2008 on the infield at Remington Park. This dog-friendly event will feature exciting attractions such as the Best Frisbee Dog Performance team and live entertainment by the Wise Guys Band. The event is sponsored by The Oklahoman Foundation, Lucky Dog Lodge, Clay and Louise Bennett, Midfirst Bank and News 9.

An event highlight is the OK Humanes mascot competition and attendees are encouraged to enter their dogs. Celebrity judges will include city manager Jim Couch, The University of Oklahoma basketball coach Jeff Capel, community volunteer Katie McClendon, Flashpoints Mike Turpin and News 9s Amanda Taylor. The winning dog will be OK Humanes new mascot and will be featured in the societys upcoming marketing campaign. In addition, the winning pet owner will receive a pet portrait painting by local animal artist Tiffany English of Red Headed Dog Studios.

Registration for the mascot competition is required in advance at www.OKHumaneDoggyDerby.com.

Families and pets also will enjoy shopping booths from local pet retailers, a visit with pet psychic Brenda McDonald, Polaroid pet portraits and the OK Humanes pet adoption booth. Special children activities include a bounce house, games, clowns, face painting and fun giveaways at the Kids Tent.

Tickets to the OK Humane Doggy Derby are $15 per person. Children age 10 and under are admitted free. All proceeds will benefit the Central Oklahoma Humane Society Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. Entry into the mascot competition is $20.
