BLESSINGS TO HELP FAMILIES INCLUDE
HOUSEHOLD PETS IN SPIRITUAL LIVES

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 17, 2008) – In an effort to help Oklahoma City residents include their pets in their families’ spiritual lives, The Oklahoma Humane Society (OK Humane) has partnered with area churches to hold a series of free pet blessings.

The first blessing is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 4400 N. Shartel Ave. in Oklahoma City (NW 44th & Shartel). The event will take place in the north parking lot.

Pastors Bryan Eckelmann, Randall Spindle and Timberly Eckelmann (MDiv.) will offer individual blessings for each pet that attends the event. Each pet will also receive a blessing certificate as a memento of the event.

Spindle said, “We believe all creatures come from God’s hands and each animal reveals one hue in the kaleidoscope of God’s love.”

The pet blessings are part of Humane Education, a public outreach and education program intended to teach people about the importance of animal welfare. Other elements of the Humane Education program include lesson plans in the school system and after-school programs for children of all ages.

OK Humane Board member and Westminster Church member Don Bobzien said, "The Church is excited about the collaboration of these two great organizations. We encourage all pet owners in the area to participate in this event.”

The Oklahoma Humane Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization whose mission is to enrich the communities it serves by promoting the well being of animals.

The organization’s overarching goal is to lead Oklahoma City to achieve No Kill status, a title given to communities with programs in place to help all adoptable and treatable animals avoid being euthanized.

The Oklahoma Humane Society is funded solely by donations, grants, and bequests. For more information, please visit www.okhumane.org
