OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Humane Society will expand services following a successful fundraising event held in north Oklahoma City.
The event, an estate sale geared toward antique collectors and cat lovers, attracted hundreds of people from Oklahoma and surrounding states, raising an estimated $45,000. The money will be used to fund a Trap, Neuter and Release program intended to control Oklahoma City’s feral cat population.
Oklahoma Humane Society Executive Director Christy Counts said the event was also successful in increasing public awareness of the organization and its goals.
“The Humane Society is relatively new to Oklahoma City,” Counts said. “We’re working hard to get the word out that we’re here, and to let people know what we’re doing to improve the community. This event was a great opportunity for us to build new relationships and communicate our plan for achieving ‘No Kill’ status for Oklahoma City.”
“No Kill” status is given to communities where programs are put in place to help all adoptable and treatable animals avoid being euthanized.
The Oklahoma Humane Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization proactively engaging the local community in creating and maintaining a “pet friendly” society by promoting responsible pet ownership, humane education and ending pet overpopulation.
OK Humane is funded solely by donations, grants, and bequests. For more information, please visit www.okhumane.org.
