Humane Society to host Estate Sale fundraiser next weekend

The Oklahoma Humane Society hopes to take its next step toward becoming America's next "no kill" city with a fundraising event that promises to perk the interest of local antique collectors, and cat lovers.

An estate sale is planned for the weekend of Aug. 18-19, featuring a lifetime collection of unique, valuable antiques, including: large, slag glass and chandelier lamps, Victorian oak and mahogany furniture, a huge selection of elegant, Depression-era glassware, English wardrobe stands, marble and leather-topped tables, parlor sets, fine china, Singer sewing machines, oil paintings, and a wide variety of cat-themed collectors items, including books, statues, paintings, posters, etc.

The event will be held at 1124 N. 51st St. on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 19, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
According to Christy Counts, Oklahoma Humane Society Executive Director, the event has two goals: to generate funding for a newly launched Trap-Neuter-Return program aimed at controlling the city's feral cat population, and to increase awareness among opinion leaders for the need to reduce the burden on animal control by saving the lives of all healthy, adoptable animals.

The Oklahoma Humane Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization proactively engaging the local community in creating and maintaining a "pet friendly" society by promoting responsible pet ownership, humane education and ending pet overpopulation. The organization's primary goal for Oklahoma City is to achieve "no kill" status.

OK Humane is funded solely by donations, grants, and bequests.
